Embassy Issues Invite for Quarterly ASP Meeting January 24th

The US Embassy in Hanoi has sent an invitation to all ASP’s (”Adoption Service Providers”, aka “Agencies”) licensed in Vietnam to participate in the U.S. Embassy’s quarterly meeting on adoption issues in Vietnam on Thursday, January 24th. According to the invitation, there will be “a wide-ranging discussion of current issues in Vietnamese adoptions as well as visa processing.”
The Embassy has requested that each agency send two representatives, a U.S.-based representative and a local program coordinator.
Clearly it is important that every agency attend this meeting. We suggest that PAP’s contact their agencies in the coming weeks to find out if they plan to attend. And we hope that the Embassy will post a summary of the meeting, as they did after the June ASP meeting. Many Prospective Adoptive Parents have questions about the current state of adoptions in Vietnam - as well as the future of adoptions with the Agreement coming up for renewal this spring. We hope that this meeting will provide answers to many of these questions.
Will those persons submitting dossier in March before changes are impletmented be grandfathered in? Do you think those of us that have completed homestudy but are still in emmigration/ translation will be able to move forward?

Is there a link or location to find the invite? I can’t find anything on the embassy site or online. It would be include to our agencies when inquiring about their attendance.

As far as I know the invite hasn’t been posted on the Embassy website. We received notice of the meeting from the Embassy, as did the 42 ASPs.
Thank you for advising of the US Embassy’s quarterly meeting invite to ASPs. In your opinion, what lies ahead (prior to this meeting) for families who have 1) obtained acknowledgement of the I600 application (Nov ‘07), learned of their I600 approval (Dec ‘07), obtained a G&R date, (Nov and revised in Dec) and 4) are waiting for the final okay from the Dept of State? Do you think it is possible that our baby’s wait will go beyond the 60 days ? Jan 16 will be 60 days.
Marie, I have no inside knowledge about the timelines for I600 approval, but it’s my understanding that the embassy intends to stay within that timeframe whenever possible. I’m hoping we will see a number of I600 approvals come through in the next few weeks, I know a lot of PAPs have been waiting up to two months longer than they anticipated thanks to the switch to the new process.

I am confused. You said you got I600 approval in Dec. Isn’t that the “final OK”? What final OK are you waiting for from the Dept. of State? If you already have I600 approval, what else do you need?
I think she means she received *verbal* approval.
