The US Embassy in Hanoi’s quarterly meeting on adoption issues in Vietnam is this Thursday, January 24th. For a number of reasons, this is a very important meeting. As we mentioned in the previous announcement, according to the invitation, there will be “a wide-ranging discussion of current issues in Vietnamese adoptions as well as visa processing.” Clearly every agency should be in attendance - the Embassy has requested that each agency send two representatives, a U.S.-based representative and a local program coordinator. Is your agency planning to attend?

Did this meeting happen last night or is it actually tonight? I’m trying to figure out if this means the 24th in Vietnam or here in the US?

Can you tell I’m dying to hear how it went and what was discussed…:)

January 24th, Hanoi time. Which means “last night” U.S. time. Not sure how long it will take for the Embassy to post a summary or for agencies to report back to families though.

It would be really, really, really nice if the Embassy would post a summary. I believe they only posted one summary of one quarterly meeting and that was quite a while back. And, as far as I can tell, that’s no longer on their revamped website. A few months ago, I e-mailed the Embassy (politely of course) and requested that they continue posting those summaries.

Christine, I googled and was able to find a link to the summary I think you’re talking about. I wish it could be reached more directly thru the website though…

Hope that helps.

Our agency stated that there was no discussion of I600 process…?

Specific things that were mentioned to us was:

1. The 60 day estimate is a target-some approvals may take shorter, some longer-the embassy will not take inquiries from families before the 60 days and they will contact the families directly if there is a problem or question.
2. Some families have reported that the email approval showed up in their spam folder-so they are encouraging families to keep an eye on that. They are also apparently considering contacting the agencies as well as the families because of concerns of problems with email.
3. All cases will be investigated in some way-probably at least 50% will require field investigations.
4. There was apparently some talk about the procedure for submission of the paperwork, emphasis on accuracy.
